Top 5 Super Soakers

Keen to get yourself a brand new water gun? Here are my five favorite Nerf Super Soaker blasters.

1. Nerf Fortnite TS-R Super Soaker

Nerf Fortnite TS-R Super Soaker

First released in 2019 as part of the Fortnite series, this TS-R Super Soaker is a triggerless pump-action soaker machine.

The reservoir cap is located on the rear of the soaker, and it provides access to a tank that can hold up to 36 fluid ounces (1 liter) of water.

While the TS-R Super Soaker may not have the largest reservoir, this is a super fun blaster with a smooth pump firing mechanism and a great design.

2. Nerf Super Soaker Barracuda

Nerf Super Soaker Barracuda

The Nerf Super Soaker Barracuda delivers double the soak with two vertically stacked barrels that shoot continuous streams as you pump the handle.

With a large 1-litre tank, it offers plenty of water power for extended battles. I like this blaster because the dual streams make it easy to drench opponents quickly.

3. Nerf Super Soaker Hydro Frenzy

Nerf Super Soaker Hydro Frenzy

The Nerf Super Soaker Hydro Frenzy features two water tubes and an adjustable nozzle that lets you switch between three spray styles: parallel streams, wide blasts, or twisting streams that spray in all directions.

The sliding nozzle makes it easy to change the water pattern mid-play, and the 709 ml tank offers decent capacity for ongoing action.

Just fill it up, pump the handle, and you’re ready to soak. I like this one because the twisting stream mode adds a fun, unpredictable twist to water fights.

4. Nerf Super Soaker Hydra Water

Nerf Super Soaker Hydra Water

The exciting Hydra Water is a relatively big high-airflow manual plunger water gun that can carry no less than 65 fluid ounces (1.9 liters) of water.

And with that large water tank, the Hydra is also the largest Nerf water gun on this list. Firing water is very easy; simply pump the handle back and forth to pour powerful streams of water toward your water war enemies.

The Hydra not only has the largest water tank, but it is also one of the heaviest Nerf Super Soakers around, weighing in at almost 1 kg. It’s not super heavy by any means, but this water blaster may not be the best choice for little kids.

5. Nerf Super Soaker Flip Fill

Nerf Super Soaker Flip Fill

The Nerf Super Soaker Flip Fill is a versatile water blaster with four spray options, including a single stream, scatter blast, and fan spray.

It holds up to 887 ml of water, allowing for longer play without constant refilling. The flip-open tank makes it quick and easy to reload during action.

Suitable for kids aged 6 and up, it’s great for outdoor fun in the garden or at the beach. I like this blaster because the quick-fill feature keeps the game going without slowing down.

What Are Nerf Super Soakers?

Contrary to what people may think, Nerf is not the inventor of the Super Soaker brand. Toy manufacturer Larami came up with the name in the late 80s.

Lonnie Johnson

An interesting fact in this story is that the actual inventor of the Super Soaker water gun is a gentleman named Lonnie Johnson, a former NASA engineer who worked on some big projects such as the Space Shuttle.

In his spare time, Lonnie enjoyed inventing things. And one of his hobby inventions was a high-power water gun which he first prototyped in 1982.

It wasn’t until 1989 that he came in touch with Larami, who was keen to bring this water gun to market.

Power Drencher

The very first water gun they produced was called the Power Drencher, a name that captured the essence of the product quite well. A couple of years later, the water gun was rebranded to Super Soaker and has been a great success ever since.

Nerf’s parent company, Hasbro, purchased Larami in 1995 and, as such, became the owner of the Super Soaker brand.

Since then, Nerf has successfully produced lots of awesome water guns in the Super Soaker series, with hopefully many more to come.

Final Thoughts

Water blasters will always be popular because they are so much fun for all ages. And Nerf has done an excellent job keeping the Super Soaker brand alive by continuously designing new and unique water blasters.

While water guns, in general, may look very simple, the technology behind the original Super Soaker prototype was actually quite sophisticated.

So, if you’re looking for some fun this summer, go ahead and grab yourself one of these powerful Nerf Super Soaker blasters because you’re not going to regret it!
