The Nerf Pro Stryfe X is a semi-automatic flywheel blaster that fires AccuStrike Half-Length Darts and promises pro performance.

Released in October 2023, the Stryfe X is the debut blaster in Nerf’s much-anticipated Pro series and is based on the original 2013 N-Strike Elite Stryfe.

As the blaster market becomes increasingly competitive, the big question is whether the Stryfe X can help Nerf reclaim its edge and raise the bar.

In this review, I will guide you through the characteristics of the Stryfe X and I will share my unbiased opinion with you.

What Is Nerf Pro?

With Nerf falling somewhat short of expectations in recent years and facing stronger competition, the new Pro series looks particularly promising.

Nerf Pro is a new, much-hyped series of blasters that fire AccuStrike Half-Length Darts. Pro blasters can only fire half-length darts, and cannot fire Elite Darts or other full-length darts.

Interestingly, the Gelfire sub-series was released in 2022, well before Nerf Pro was introduced to the market. Read my Gelfire Mythic review, if you’re interested.

AccuStrike Half-Length Dart

The AccuStrike Half-Length Dart is, quite literally, a half-length version of the successful AccuStrike Dart that came out in 2017.

The half-length version is designed specifically for the new Pro series to further improve the distance, accuracy, and velocity of firing.

As I mentioned, the Stryfe X is the successor to the hugely popular N-Strike Elite Stryfe from 2013. With the original still a fan favorite, the new Stryfe X has some big shoes to fill. But is it an improvement over the original, and is it worth your money? Keep reading to find out!

3 Reasons to Buy the Stryfe X

Here’s my take on the Nerf Pro Stryfe X.

Fun fact: the “X” represents the number 10, meaning the Stryfe X was released 10 years after the original Stryfe.

1. Pro Performance

Nerf promises “pro performance” with the Stryfe X, which might sound a bit vague at first. However, the packaging specifies a velocity of up to 150 feet per second (FPS).

Historically, Hasbro’s claims have tended to be a bit optimistic, but with the Stryfe X, they’re actually being rather modest.

After extensive testing, I consistently achieved an average FPS of 156 under ideal conditions, with occasional peaks above 160 and lows near 140. That’s impressive performance!

Distance (80-120 feet) and accuracy are also very good, with the Stryfe X being remarkably good at shooting in a straight line.

Why does it perform so well? The AccuStrike Half-Length Darts certainly seem to help, but I’d say the internal mechanics are a huge improvement compared to the classic Stryfe.

2. Great Ergonomics

The Stryfe X, overall, offers great ergonomics. The grip is well-designed (it’s a bit longer than the original) and feels good in the hand.

The magazine well at the bottom caters to short darts but the entire block is similarly sized from an aesthetic perspective.

The magazine

The magazine can be quickly released with a release paddle rather than with a button as is the case with the classic Stryfe.

The battery (see below) is also easy to remove and insert, and the grip in combination with the acceleration trigger makes firing super easy.

3. Rechargeable Battery

The blaster includes a rechargeable 11.1V 1000mAh LiPo Battery that is attached to the right side of the blaster.

The battery

This battery unit can easily be ejected by pressing a button and then sliding it out of its position.

The best part? It can be quickly recharged with a simple USB-A or USB-C cable, which is included in the package.

Conclusion

Let me get straight to the point in my verdict: the Stryfe X is fantastic. Nerf is finally going back to its roots when it comes to foam flinging, which is exactly what Nerf fans want.

Nerf took one of its most popular blasters in history, and instead of ruining it with cheaper materials and random unnecessary features, they managed to make the Stryfe X better than its predecessor by listening to the community.

The blaster essentially looks, feels, and performs like a modded classic Stryfe. One drawback? The Stryfe X is significantly louder than the original, but some may actually consider that a good thing.
